Gangi Kung Fu

History of the System at a Glance!
The historical background begins
with our roots in a system named:

Gung Mao Kung-Fu

The Beginning

This system was a “closed family” way of learning, training and passing on of knowledge. Closed family systems and/or styles were handed down or passed on from family member to family member unless the head of the family (grandmaster) perceived that a senior student  (not a family member) could uphold and pass on training, philosophy etc. to new generations.

Usually the way a prospective student, outside family lines, was accepted was through a letter of introduction from a respected or highly ranked individual or a private audience with the grandmaster or senior ranks.

Grandmaster Walter Borkowski was introduced to Great Grandmaster Wong under this condition while he was stationed in Iwakuni, Japan in the U.S.M.C. (1951)

GUNG MAO GUNG FU was developed heavily in Okinawa, Japan in the mid 1800. The system has hard & soft techniques as well as linear & circular movements.

Gung Mao Gung-Fu (Kung-Fu), as passed on by the masters, has a strong stance foundation with emphasis on strong conditioning and excellence of technique, mind and spirit.

Gung Mao incorporated open hand as well as closed fist techniques in both blocking and striking. Kicking was kept to solar plexus level or below with the exception of two secret kicks kept at head level. Jump kicks were limited to front kick types. Last but no least,  Forms, which came from an array of styles.

Kang Chuan Do International (K.C.D.I) was founded by Supreme Grand Master Walter Borkowski after he had reached 9th Dan ranking in Gung Mao Gung Fu

Grand Master Borkowski, due to political reasons, resigned from the Gung Mao Gung Fu Association and founded Kang Chuan Do International. Under K.C.D.I., Grand Master Borkowski allowed students of high rank (4th 5th 6th level Black Belts) to experience and develop techniques, forms, training, conditioning, meditative & spiritual ways, that were not allowed or thought under Gung Mao.

In 1985, Gangi Kung Fu was established. At that time, Master Gangi had trained 20 years in the Martial Arts and attained Black Belts in Gung Mao Kung Fu, Goju Karate, Tang Soo Do, Judo, Jui-Jitsu, Aiki-Jitsu and Eastern Martial Arts Weaponry. Master Gangi blended fighting strategies from a variety of styles and systems.

Gangi Kung Fu offers a form of Martial Arts which is eclectic by nature. It is a system that gives the individual the best of traditional and modern Martial Arts. It blends conditioning exercises, stretching, breathing (chi gong) lohans, yoga, weight training, meditation, relaxation and visualization. It is constantly improving to handle the ever changing conditions of today’s modern world. After all, we don’t walk around with Samurai swords or Chinese Do swords or  Okinawan Sai’s anymore, even though there is much to be studied from these systems. Today you might deal with knives, guns, machetes or baseball bats.

Gangi Kung Fu is an ideal martial art that is universal. It adapts to the student versus the student adapting to the style. Its’ philosophy on self-defense is to use what is needed and what your ability lets you perform;    Punch, kick, throw, disarm, joint lock, guide, avoid, attack or dissolve the situation.
